I bet I'm one of the few people who writes their produce reports while they vacuum the floor. I'm quite domesticated. And since I'm telling you all my secrets, I'm going to tell you that I like fruit, but I'm not a big apple or orange eater. I get kind of bored with that stuff. It's so everyday. But what I really like is the summertime when all the summer fruit starts coming in, and it's a great time for fruit. California is really producing a lot of good stuff right now. Peaches, plums, nectarines, apricots, all excellent quality, very reasonable prices. Grapes coming in of all flavors and sizes, Pirette Thompson seedless, red flame seedless, and a new grape, a black seedless grape. I guess these grapes won't have any children, but who cares? There's a lot of grapes in there, all really good, running about a dollar to a dollar and a half a pound. Tropical fruit's a little high this week, papayas and pineapples out of out of Hawaii. They've had some bad weather over there. There are some wonderful mangoes coming out of Mexico, about a dollar apiece. And kiwi fruit coming in New Zealand now, 49 to 69 cents apiece. Where's the cherries? If you've been looking for cherries and can't find them, it's because the California crop was a short season. They had a lot of hot weather. So the cherry season's finished from California, and it's a little too early for the Washington or Oregon cherries, perhaps next week. The really best stories though are melons, cantaloupe, honeydew out of California, watermelon out of California as low as 19 cents a pound. Excellent watermelon, they call it watermelon, they're 92% water. Guess that's why. Really good right now. And last week we talked about the strawberry crop and the problems that they were having here locally, but we had a week of sunshine up till today. And the strawberries locally have been just wonderful. Sweet, luscious, good size, and great eating. A woman gave me a tip. She said if you take some watermelon and puree it, take the seeds out and then put some strawberries in, you freeze it, you drink it all summer long, it makes a wonderful summer coolant. Watermelon and strawberries, I suggest you try it this week. So it's a great week to go out and eat some fruit. For eyewitness news, I'm Terry Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70775/file/156724#t=42.42,155.0
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70775/file/156724/transcript/87487/annotation/2
Speaker 2: To ask people to register to vote prior to Election Day?
