The State Fish and Wildlife Department wants fishermen to take no more than one adult chinook from the river per week. Up until yesterday, the limit was three salmon in one day. Most of us haven't even got one yet this year. Most of it. This year's chinook run is the smallest in 41 years. And fishermen who enjoy the challenge of catching salmon from either the bank or by drift boat are not happy about the new limit. But the state was forced to cut back the catch to allow more fish to spawn for future stocks. State biologists say the number of salmon is low this year because of a combination of warm water and high flows, which wiped out most of the hatch four years ago. And river guides who earn their living on the rogue say the one fish per week limit is going to be hard on their business, and some feel it may be difficult to enforce.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70595/file/156541#t=54.86,107.24
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70595/file/156541/transcript/86719/annotation/2
Speaker 2: They're going to have to check every boat, it seems like, or every bank fisherman, every day to make sure that they don't go over it. And that would mean that if they cut that off, we would no longer be able to get programming from NPR. One possibility is on-air fundraising. There's been a system-wide waiver granted by the FCC late last week for 90 days which will allow individual stations to go on the air and raise money for NPR. That would reduce the loan amount.
