More than 80 homes destroyed, tens of thousands of homes without power, hundreds of miles roads impassable and five lives lost in Eugene, 42 throughout the northwest. Evidence from the big Columbus Day storm is still easy to find around campus. Of this line of ten fir trees, only two survived the 90 mile an hour plus winds.
