You don't have to drive all the way to the coast to get these fish this time of the year. They're delivered right up the McKinsey and Willamette system here. This is the time of year when most salmon fishermen in Eugene Springfield area thaw out a carton of eggs, put them in their drift boat, and back their driftboat in the garage in anticipation of getting out in an afternoon and fishing for the salmon and steel head and the McKinsley and the Willamett system. Word is out that there's over 5,000 fish over the falls at Oregon City. These fish aren't all gonna come up here and stack up under the Ferry Street Bridge, but there are a lot of them gonna have to pass by this way and that's the ones that the fishermen are gonna be looking for. These fish run from 10 to 40 pounds and this is the leading edge of the run. The fish should be a nice bright shape. If you're out there on the river and catch a fish in a five to six pound class, possibly you've got a steelhead.
