Think salad. What do I mean by that? Well, salad greens are actually very reasonably priced this time of the year. We've got beautiful red leaf, green leaf, romaine lettuce all coming in, as low as three heads for a dollar. Head lettuce is a little higher, but the quality is excellent. Carrots, which have been up, coming down in price. Green onions and radishes, spinach out of California, all very reasonably-priced for this time of the, actually good price for any time of year, make a lovely soup and salad dinner tonight. Also, now we're getting into some Mexican tomatoes. They're a much better flavor than the Florida tomatoes, but the price is still high, about $1.50 for a basket, over $1 a pound for these large tomatoes. For a dressing, you might try some of these Dickens dressings. They're made locally in Springfield. Excellent dressings, no preservatives. I recommend them highly. I really like them. Now let's take a look at some of the items in the vegetable department that are going to put dents or even holes in your pocket book this week. Cauliflower and broccoli, both out of California. Very high price this week, 79, 89, 99 cents a pound. Green peppers out of Mexico, over $1 a pound, asparagus out of the Imperial Valley in California. Excellent quality, but prices are high. They range up to $2 a pound They will be coming down. Finally, our item of the week this week are no-jive chives. You can plant these chives in your garden. They're a perennial. They'll come back every year. You just clip them off, boom, boom boom boom, throw them in your freezer. You'll have chives year-round, an excellent addition to a baked potato, salad, or a soup.
