It also goes along with the fact that most people who abuse kids have been abused themselves when they were children or were criticized so much that they grew up feeling worthless, which again brings down the depression. It's the typical reason that we see in virtually all of our child abuse cases. The parents really start looking at their children for the kind of nurturing that they didn't get when they were kids themselves. What that means is that the kids are exposed to really high expectations, which they can't meet to make a parent feel good about herself or himself.
