They raised taxes, they took control of the school district, and they established a police force, some said spent most of its time harassing the few non-Rajneshis who didn't choose to move away. At one point, the Rajhnishis even tried to use the city in a political trade-off. They promised to move out of the city they now called Rajnish, if the Oregon legislature would guarantee the existence of their other city, the commune at Rajnish Param. After the swearing in of seven new council members and the election of a mayor, the crowd went outside to make a few long-awaited changes. Mayor Jean Oprah says the council will probably set an election to disincorporate Antelope. She says the city is too small and too difficult to maintain, and she expects unanimous approval from the few people who still live here. That election probably won't come until May. In the meantime, the council can concentrate on removing all signs of the Rajhnishi regime. Tonight, what the Rajhnish called Mevlana Bagwan Street has its old name back.
