April means baseball season, and I have some predictions for you. I predict the White Sox are going to win the American League, and you guessed it, the Chicago Cubs in the National League. Now I've got some other predictions in the fruit and vegetable market that are a little bit more believable. I predict excellent prices, particularly in the vegetable department. And why? Well, California is really coming on strong. Leaf lettuce, good week for a salad, head lettuce, 39, 49 cents a head. Green onions, radishes, all very, very good right now. Also out of California. Broccoli and cauliflower as low as 49 cents a pound. We're seeing the switch of the seasons. It was things were grown in Mexico, now they're coming out of California. Zucchini, cucumbers. Zucchini is running about 59 cents a pound. Cucumbers about 39 to 49 cents apiece. Very, very good. Even mushrooms, which are grown in Oregon, very reasonable. They're down about 50 cents a pound. Over in the fruit department, out of California, strawberries. This week, their lowest price I've seen this year, about 49 cents a basket. Very, very good quality. Seedless grapes coming in, I mentioned before, out of chili. They're starting to come in with some discoloration right now, but that just means that they're a little ripe. They are very sweet. Don't judge them how they look, judge them how they taste. For the vegetables of the week, in fact, the home runs this week, you gotta run home with this stuff. Artichokes and asparagus out of California again. Asparagus, you're gonna see it drop down to below a dollar a pound sometime this month. And artichokes out of Castroville, they were three dollars a piece a month ago. Sometime during the month, you're gonna see them for 39 cents apiece. Really a good buy and the quality is excellent. So all in all it's a very good week. No foul balls this week.
