I think there is a middle of the ground road that the legislature can pursue. I hope that they do pursue it. I don't think that we in agriculture want to continue and think only of the economic advantages. I think we have to live with the rest of the state. But we do want to be able to continue to exist. We don't want to put out of business. Were perhaps more practical and have to live with these things all of the time. Take the nerve gas, I live right across the road from the Ordnance Depot, and the 20 people that I employ, not a one of them, questioned the location of the nerve-gas there. And they're naturally feeling that they'd seen these people handle dangerous nuclear or munitions before, and they had lots of confidence in them. It didn't seem to be this uptightness that the rest of the state seem to have. We deal day-to-day with many of the problems connected with pollution, and so I know that from an economic standpoint there are certain things we can do and certain things that we cannot do. I believe it is essential that a more accurate perspective be given. To the peace proposals, to the war, and to the current American actions in Vietnam and Cambodia. According to what NSA has told me, we'll begin on Sunday. We'll leave Washington, D.C. For New York. Sunday evening we will leave New York to Moscow. We will remain for a few days and meet with the Soviet peace committee and some representatives from North Vietnam. We'll then go down to Hanoi. We should spend approximately two weeks in Hanoi. Meeting with representatives of the government and the students. We will be met in Hanoi after about one week there with a delegation of NSA delegates that was previously supposed to be in Saigon. We'll all meet in Hannoi for about a week and then we will leave to Moscow. From Moscow we will go to Paris where we will meet with representatives again of North Vietnam and of the People's Revolutionary Government. Then we will fly back to the United States. That it is governments who are waging war on the people rather than people against people. I hope also that it will show that there is another path to peace other than the proposals presented by the United States. Perhaps also other than proposals presented by PRG are the two proposals that are basically before. Talks right now that perhaps there is another way to peace besides that. I think the strongest expression will be an expression of hopefully. Personally and speaking for the renewal agency feel very strongly that the auditorium is the best use for this site. It's been our idea from the initial planning of the project, and we think that the Auditorium will really make downtown Eugene a complete downtown. If you go to communities and bigger cities and see the arrangement of facilities that are downtown and the type things that are available, that's the difference between downtown and a shopping center. I personally feel very strongly that communities the size of Eugene had to make a concerted effort to build a downtown because if they don't, they're going to be scattered up the valley. The big department stores are moving out. The streets are closed. We've got now a playground downtown and they want to surround it with an auditorium and a hotel. Attraction on a Friday night. There could be some conflict there, but that would be an occasional thing. Purely from a traffic standpoint. It could only be answered in terms of the... Type of facility. My point there, and I'm not trying to hit, but my point there is that if it were the type of a facility that required, say, 2,000 parking spaces versus one that only required 500 parking spaces, of course there's a lot of difference. You might very well be able to absorb one in a downtown area or you might not be able to absorb the other. In this particular case, I have some personal opinions about it, aside from the traffic engineering standpoint. Purely from a traffic standpoint, I don't see any great pros and cons one way or the other relative to the location downtown. There have been some statements made, however, by the consultant, which I certainly agree with, and that is relative to need either presently or as soon as possible in the future to get most of the through traffic off sixth and seventh by some manner. There's certainly some disagreement in the community about what that manner should be, but that to me is one of the first goals that should be looked at is that problem because I know it was evidently a source of problems to the designers.
