Nearly 600 firefighters, some using aerial tankers, have been struggling to put out that fire on national forest land since Monday. Near Spokane, crews are dousing hot spots from a fire that swept through a subdivision, destroying 24 homes and damaging 12 more. Officials believe the blaze was touched off when a tree branch blew into a power line. Closer to home, evacuated residents near Medford were able to return to their homes. Boaters, environmentalists, hunters and fishermen, a Lane County administrator, management from the Army Corps, and most importantly, Representatives of Congressman Peter DeFazio. The stage was set for the meeting months ago. This summer Fern Ridge suffers from the lowest water level in 10 years. The hardest hit by the lack of water, boaters.
