Now, to put this into further perspective, Legionnaire's disease organism is not literally everywhere. There are samples that are negative for the agent, but we should not be surprised to find some numbers of the agent in Columbia River, Willamette River, and other bodies of water, lakes, ponds, and rivers throughout the world. But there are some unique... Physical conditions on the mountain that have fostered a microbiological bloom, regrowth to tremendously high levels of a variety of bacterial agents, among which is included the agent of Legionnaire's disease. Well, we've certainly found that it's present on the mountain. There are a couple of locations, specifically in Coldwater Lake, where the counts are the highest. The counts that we have found are in the high range or high average range of Legionnaires disease organism, where it's been enumerated at any location. So it's not just present, but it's at levels of 1,000 to 10,000 times above detectable levels. There is circumstantial evidence that a number of scientists have contracted Legionnaires' disease, mild cases, following an exposure, a field trip, and sample collection on the mountain. But David, there are enough loopholes in those cases uh... To cause some reasonable level of question as to whether or not the infection was directly associated with exposure to a lake. The evidence is circumstantial. So I guess what I would recommend or suggest under these conditions of circumstantially evidence, why take a chance? Why expose, if this is the plan, hundreds and hundreds of tourists to a potential source of disease when that risk may not be absolutely necessary. Let's wait until we have some more information that might tend to pin down the cause and effect of exposure to a given lake and the acquisition of a mild disease. And indeed, for all we know, there may be another disease agent that has caused some of the illnesses in the scientists. And until we have some of this. Swinging over to the local produce scene, vegetable-wise, what are we getting? Well, this cold weather is really going to wreck our tomato crop. The local tomatoes are becoming very good. But the wet nights and cold mornings really damage the tomatoes, so look for that season to end shortly. But what is coming out locally are squash and all kinds of squash. Butternut squash, acorn squash, K-Borg Danish, spaghetti squash, and a new kind of squash, Delicata. All these varieties of squash is very good quality, 20 to 30 cents a pound. Excellent quality, great for baking, soup, very hearty for these cold, cold evenings. Finally, what's coming in new now? Cranberry. Now you know cranberries have been in short supply, they're on the market now, there are 12 ounce bags instead of a pound this year, so you might think about that when you're doing your recipes, and I say go out and buy them now, throw them in your freezer and you'll have them for Thanksgiving. Come next month, you're not going to be around again, you'll be looking for them, so go out an buy your cranberries early this year.
