But nowadays, most Christmas trees don't grow in the forest. They grow on tree farms. And here in Oregon, Christmas trees are big business. According to the National Christmas Tree Association, Americans harvest 30 million Christmas trees each year. One out of five comes from the Pacific Northwest and Oregon leads the nation. The traditional yuletide tree is still the Douglas fir. Many prefer the noble fir or even the scotch pine. Here in their home state, retail prices range from $10 for a simple five foot Douglas fir to $75 for a custom flock 10 foot noble fir. Majority of Oregon's trees are now exported to California and the rest of the nation. Last week I told you about how to make sinkers and we've been talking about how to tie up things and work on rods. I think this weekend's gonna be the weekend to start looking for those steelhead. You know the time with the steelhead was here a little while ago, but there wasn't quite enough water for the fish to come in on. Then when it did get some water, we got all the water we could stand. The rivers come right up out of shape and got muddy on us. While the fish come in when it's muddy, that doesn't keep them from coming in, all it does is keep the fishermen from getting to them. I called around the state this morning to try to find a few guides around to tell me what the river conditions were. I called five guides. Three of them I couldn't get a hold of. One of them, his wife said he was on the river. The other one, his answering service said he's on the river. So they must think the fish are out there. I believe they are too. I think I'm going to go down and hunt a fish this weekend. It's not going to be real easy. Some of the rivers are going to in good shape and some of them aren't. You're just going to have to find the one that's in good shape, get out there and keep pitching all that stuff at them what we've been talking about. I think there's gonna be a few down there, hope to see you down there. You're not gonna be there by yourself, so be patient.
