And a question that a lot of people ask this time of the year is how can I get good fruit, particularly good citrus? You know, one thing you have to remember is any citrus or apples that you're buying this time of the year are last year's crop. So here's a tip: when you're buying naval oranges, select oranges that have nice uniform color and a good firm feel, texture. They feel there's no skin separation. Here's one that you can see the skin is starting to separate from the orange, it's all blemished. This orange is going to be very pithy and not very good on the inside. So get for some good weight and a good firm orange. But remember, oranges are tailing off now. Same holds true with grapefruit, and the same holds true with apples. All your apples are coming out of controlled storage atmosphere. They're going to be more money, 69 cents a pound. We'll be into some fresh Granny Smith apples out of New Zealand soon, but you're going to pay higher prices on last year's fruit. This year's fruit, cantaloupes out of Mexico, very, very good right now, as low as 49 cents a pound. Strawberries out of California, this has been about the lowest price I've seen them this week, as low as 39 cents a basket. And again, seedless grapes imported from Chile, they're near the tail end of their season, but the sugar content is very high, so they taste very good. They are running about $2 a pound. Over in the vegetable apartment, it's a great week for a salad. Lettuce of all kinds, particularly leafless, excellent. Out of California, as low as 39 to 49 cents a head. Green onions and radishes coming locally right now, very, very reasonably priced. Most of the vegetables now are coming out of California instead of Mexico, so prices are starting to come down. Artichokes are goodbye. Broccoli, yellow onions, asparagus out of the Pacific Northwest. All very, very good this week. New item, white potatoes out of California, 29 cents a pound. A very, very sweet potato, similar to the red potato. You don't want to bake these, but they're excellent for making potato salad. High price item this week. Well, tomatoes out of Florida are running a little high, about a dollar a pound. And finally, it's going to be Mother's Day. And if you're tired of giving mom the old usual flowers, why not give her a little asparagus green onion bouquet I put together? Makes a nice gift. If you're out there, Mom, happy Mother's Day. For eyewitness news, I'm Terry Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70743/file/156691#t=1260.81,1387.87
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70743/file/156691/transcript/87607/annotation/69
Speaker 24: Oh good and tight. In fact, the only concern anybody really had was over the weather. The crew, all six astronauts, including America's second woman in space, Judy Resnick, got in the Discovery's hatch right on time, and then the countdown proceeded until T minus 20 minutes when the first signs of trouble developed. The backup flight system computer, which controls the critical launch and re-entry phase, just did not work. The problem was sort of like asking it a question and then it refusing to answer at all. The shuttle has to have a working computer or it cannot re-enter. No mere test pilot can hope to handle any spacecraft at 18,000 miles an hour. NASA first tried to solve the problem during one of the final 10-minute holds in the countdown. That didn't work. They then decided to continue the countdown, hoping the problem would go away, or wasn't the computer's software. Wrong again. It turned out to be, they think, in the hardware.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70743/file/156691#t=2341.02,2401.42
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70743/file/156691/transcript/87607/annotation/125
Speaker 38: Yeah.
