And a little attempt for humor because when you go to the store, you're gonna find fruit and vegetable prices are not particularly funny. In fact, they're kind of serious. They're still high price. Over in the fruit department, let's look. Well, strawberries were good last week, but they've had some rain in Southern California this past week. So the strawberry crop is up. Prices were down. You see prices over a dollar a basket this week. Out of the Pacific Northwest, we're getting into the CA, that's controlled atmosphere storage apples. I'll tell you more about those later. But apple prices are going to be up 10 to 20 cents a pound because they are CA. That means better quality though. Out of Mexico, cantaloupe and melon season is beginning. We're getting honeydews and cantaloupes in. Quality is pretty good, but prices are high, about a dollar a piece for the melons. Again from California, citrus is good, but near the tail end of a lot of the citrus season, there are some good values. Royal mandarins as low as three pounds for a dollar. The real high prices this week out of California, limes. Florida California limes, two, three dollars a pound, eighty dollars a box on the wholesale market, if you can imagine that. Boy, watch it if you're gonna drink any gimlets or anything like that this weekend. Over in the vegetable department, the news isn't any better. A dollar a pound for red cabbage is the same holds true for cauliflower, broccoli, green peppers are gonna go over a dollar a pound out of Mexico this week. Tomatoes about a dollar a pound, depending on size. Cucumbers, high price, 49, 59 cents a piece. That's a lot of money for a cucumber. And red potatoes. Now Red potatoes were coming out of North Dakota. We're going to switch into the Florida crop, and of course, Florida had the problems. So red potatoes are going to be about 60 to 70 cents a pound. I guess it makes broccoli and cauliflower not so bad at a dollar a pound if you're paying 70 cents a pound for potatoes. Best performance by a vegetable this week's got to be leaf items, leaf lettuce in particular and spinach. They're down a little bit, 39, 49, 59 cent range. So at least we can afford to eat salad this week. So again, higher prices and questionable quality. For eyewitness news, I'm Terry Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70713/file/156661#t=494.35,611.57
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70713/file/156661/transcript/87571/annotation/20
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70713/file/156661#t=650.51,652.829
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70713/file/156661/transcript/87571/annotation/21
Speaker 10: We do not have at this point in time the projected budget for the campaign because we wanted to wait until after the deadline, the filing deadline next Tuesday to determine what the competition might be.
