Japanese seamen had last week refused to travel into the northern Gulf War Zone, and it also blacklisted the Northwest Gulf oil exporting state of Kuwait. Officially, Kuwait is not involved in the Gulf War, but its financial and moral support for neighboring Iraq has made it a target for an occasional Iranian air raid, including recent missile attacks upon two Kuwaiti oil tankers. Thus, according to oil industry sources, Kuwait is facing a financial squeeze play, with an increasing number of shipping companies shying away from Kuwaiti ports. Kuwaiti officials say the disruption is minimal and that production of oil will continue at 1.1 million barrels per day at about the same price for the next year.
