Her punishment will be four and a half years in a medium security prison in California and more than $400,000 in fines. In federal court, Sheila admitted she was behind a plot to put salmonella bacteria in coffee creamers and salad bars in restaurants in the Dalles just before the 1984 election. 750 people at 10 restaurants were poisoned. Forty-five of the victims required hospitalization, and at least one nearly died. Sheila's sentenced today, four and a half years in prison. She pleaded guilty to the biggest wiretapping conspiracy in Oregon's history, admitting she ordered the bugging of phones at the Rajneeshpuram Commune. The sentence, four-and-a-half years, to be served concurrently with the other sentence. She admitted her guilt in the conspiracy to bring foreign Rajneeshis into the United States through false testimony and phony marriages. The sentence. Five years probation. Then it was on to state court for another list of charges and more plea bargained admissions of guilt. Sheila admitted her part in one attempt to kill the Bogwon's personal physician. The sentence, 20 years in prison, concurrent, and a $100,000 fine. She admitted that she and others gave two Wasco County commissioners poisoned glasses of water when they were making an inspection tour of the commune. The sentenced, 20 years on the first charge concurrent plus a $100,000 fine. And 10 more years concurrent on the second charge. Prison time suspended, but with another $100,000 fine. Sheila also admitted being behind the fire at the Wasco County Planning Office in January of 1985. The sentence, 20 years concurrent, plus a $100000 fine and $69,000 in restitution to the county. Sheila will likely do her time in a medium security prison in Pleasanton, California. Thank you. Good luck. The prison terms sound long, but because they're concurrent, they're much shorter. What's more, authorities concede a 20-year sentence on state charges usually means less than five years prison time. So while Sheila was sentenced to 70 years on state charge alone, in fact she'll likely spend no more than four and a half years total behind bars. And with credit given for the nine months she's already spent in jail, she seems certain to be free by 1990.
