The collection comprises sound recordings of a wide variety of University of Oregon events, 1933-1995. The bulk of the collection is from 1947-1979. Graduations and football games chronical student life while groundbreaking ceremonies and dedications record university history. The University of Oregon also has a long tradition of engaging in both academic and political discourse through hosting a wide variety of guest speakers on campus. During the 1950s-1970s these speakers included university administrators and faculty members, Robert D. Clark, Len Casanova, Paul W. Ellis, and Chandler B. Beall; politicians, including Wayne L. Morse, John F. Kennedy, and Ralph Nader; authors, such as Robert Frost, Allen Ginsberg, Vance Packard; academics, including Margret Mead, Dr. Jiro Harada; and noted field experts like, Dr. Timothy Leary, Judge Lawrence T. Harris and Dr. Benjamin Spock. While most of the recordings are from events on campus there are also a few from the Umatilla Indian reservation as well as recordings of radio productions and interviews.
